Careers in Biotech after Graduation:

The student community faces considerable confusion with regard to choice of courses that would lead them to successful careers.I aid students and try to guide them to choose the right career path.In this article i will be discussing about how to prepare for biotech entrance exams and Careers in Biotech.

After a B.Tech or a B.Sc.in biotechnology there are various opportunities for students in India , You can either go for higher studies like M.tech, M.Sc. or PhD degrees for improving your skills and up gradation of your degree or you can go for jobs in the biotech companies, research institutes ,Pharmacy companies ,even universities and colleges.

Students are under emotional stress in selecting courses, due to pressure from parents, peer groups and the society .Career Choices made under such pressure will lead to taking up courses/careers that one may not eventually find interesting, absorbing and satisfying.so to make it more easier i would suggest some major biotech exams from which student can select as per his choice. These are: IISC (Bangalore), TIFR (Mumbai) , IIT-JAM ,AIIMS (Delhi), MKU (madurai), JNU, AMU.

Earlier it was a big question of my life as well and i was totally confused about what to do after BSc. like it happens with lot of students , then without wasting much of time i decided to prepare for IIT JAM exam .IIT-JAM ,it is the entrance exam conducted by IITs for its two year M Sc course in physics, geophysics, mathematics, biotechnology, geology, mathematical-statistics, chemistry and computer applications .As i was a botany graduate i had an option of M.Sc. in Biotechnology. The Biotechnology (BT) test paper comprises of Biology (44% weightage),Chemistry (20% weightage), Mathematics (18% weightage) and Physics (18% weightage) and oppurtunities after MSc. are very good.you can go for research or you get placed in the companies that visit the campus.

After deciding all , again a question arose in my mind how to prepare for it because IIT itself is a known name and preparing for it on my own is very difficult ,i searched a lot for iit-jam biotech coaching and spent a lot of time and money n it was really a very big headache then my search came to an end when i visited Trajectory Education. All the lectures given by IIT experts and the Study material for iit-jam biotech provided by them got me through the exam as Trajectory people lay focus in making concrete base for one's career by taking relevant steps. In this article i will be discussing how to get through iit-jam exam.firstly i started with biology part then moved on to chemistry and at last i went through mathematics and physics. A student appearing for it has three choice of courses to opt from:

M.Sc. Biotechnology (IITB, IITR)

M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Biotechnology (IITB)

M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Environmental Science & Engineering (IITB).

After post graduation in biotechnology students generally go for PhD through net, gate ,JRFs or MBA for establishing themselves in business industry.

After M.Sc. in biotechnology students are hired to work as project assistants at research institute or research fellows ,they are generally paid from 20,000-30,000 in govt. Institutes.

In corporate sector student with higher capabilities are selected for deserving positions e.g. Biocon .

Various positions for postgraduates are:

Research assistant ,Quality control engineer,Clinical programmer, Biochemical Development Engineer.Lectureships and assistant professorship.
